Of course the big story this month is the Yankees winning the World Series after a long, terrifying nine year drought. This was the Yankees 27th World Series win. Three more and they get a Free Sub.
A-Rod had a really good postseason this year, especially compared to the last few. When asked on how he prepared differently for the playoffs this year, Rodriguez said that before every game he watched Fool’s Gold on DVD. That, and he’s subsisting entirely on steroids.
I think the most excited Yankee to win had to be Derek Jeter. as he no longer has to hear Yogi Berra brag about all that five championship pussy he was getting.
The NBA season is underway. No word yet on whether or not the NBA is going to grant the Nets the do-over they asked for last week.
Milwaukee Bucks rookie Brandon Jennings set a team scoring record, dropping 55 points against the Golden State Warriors. However, the record will come with an asterisk since it was set against the Warriors.
Bill Walton has retired from broadcasting, saying “It is time to dedicate the rest of my life to service,” adding, “And by service I mean getting really, really high all the time.” He’s retiring to spend more time with The Grateful Dead.
NHL news - 12 year veteran Peter Forsberg announced that he is going to stay in his native Sweden this season. DAMN YOU FORSBERG! That dude owes me $20!
Good thing about having your favorite player play in Sweden? It’s a lot easier finding his games on cable.
Football news - Running back Larry Johnson, who was released by the Chiefs last week, signed with the Bengals this week. Johnson was quoted as saying he was excited to go to Cincinnati and play for a contender, plus they had a much more relaxed ‘No Hate Slurs or Spitting On Women’ policy.
Patriots coach Bill Belichick is being criticized for his decision to go for it on 4th and 2 with his team up against the Colts with two minutes to play. Explaining his decision after the game Belichick proclaimed, “I know it was a bold and risky call. But in my defense, fuck you, I’m BIll Fucking Belichick.”
The Supreme Court on Monday declined to revive a lawsuit on behalf of Native American activists who claimed that the Washington Redskins’ team name is too offensive. Upon hearing the news, owner Dan Snyder breathed a sigh of relief, as he no longer has to consider changing the team’s name to the more politically correct ‘Washington Casino Profiteers with a Genetic Predisposition to Substance Abuse Issues.’
A play about legendary Green Bay Packers coach Vince Lombardi will come to Broadway next fall. It’s called ‘Winning Isn’t Everything… but it’s FABULOUS!’ In related news, Jim Fassel will be premiering his one-man show next week at the Qdoba Mexican Grill on 34th St.
